My Story
My name is Charles Mensah Otwere, a graduate student in the MSc. Computer Information Systems & Business Analytics program at West Texas A&M University. My academic journey and professional experience reflect a consistent commitment to problem solving, strategic thinking, and organizational growth.
Before beginning my graduate studies, I built a solid career across marketing, sales, and product development roles in Ghana. I have served as a Marketing Manager, Sales & Product Development Manager, and Territory Supervisor in leading companies such as Kitea Ghana Limited, Assa Abloy, Sunda International, Wilmar Africa, and Unilever Ghana. Across these roles, I developed and executed data driven marketing strategies, managed distributors and wholesalers, optimized sales pipelines, and used market insights to improve product visibility and performance. These experiences strengthened my analytical mindset and my ability to translate data into actionable business decisions—skills that now support my transition into business analytics.
Alongside my professional experience, I have actively participated in research assistance, academic projects, and community leadership, including serving as a research assistant on multiple academic and professional projects, and as a youth leader involved in training and capacity development. My technical skills include data analysis (SPSS), Microsoft Office tools, and emerging information systems, which directly support my current academic focus.
Academically, I hold an MBA, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Technology from the University of Cape Coast, where my undergraduate research was published in the Asian Journal of Plant Science and Research (https://ir.ucc.edu.gh/xmlui/handle/123456789/5944 ). My research background has shaped my interest in evidence based decision making and structured analysis.
As my first project in WT, I designed and implemented an open-source Mailroom Management System, a secure and AI-featured package tracking platform designed for local community housing environments. I presented this work at our student research poster session in December 2025 and upgraded version in March 2026, where he was recognized by both faculty and peers. This project demonstrated my ability to utilize knowledge gained in the classroom to address real operational challenges within business scenarios.
Through my graduate studies, I have developed a blend of professional discipline, analytical curiosity, and a passion for continuous learning. My goal is to leverage my background in marketing, sales, and research—together with advanced training in CIS and Business Analytics—to contribute meaningfully to data driven decision making in organizations.
I am particularly motivated by opportunities that allow me to apply creativity, problem solving, and technology to real world business challenges, particularly in areas such as inventory and project management, operational efficiency, and institutional decision support.
